about

This was our second album for Grass Records. Mike played in Mercury Rev with Dave Fridmann and asked on a lark if he'd come to Minneapolis and record us at The Terrarium. Surprisingly, he said yes!

He had just finished Clouds Taste Metallic by The Flaming Lips. Suffice to say we were a bit nervous as we had no idea what we wanted to do in the studio, which surprised Dave as well.

Dave came up with so many great ideas and used the fact that the studio was in an old warehouse to its full advantage. While we were recording "wearing thin" there was a dude cutting concrete down the hall, so we quickly recorded it and added it to the track. Also using the cavernous space for some ambient reverb on "34 West 73rd St." for the guitar intro and recording "Gimme Some Time" in the open warehouse.

To pass time, we would play soccer in the warehouse, which unfortunately caused Dave to injure his leg. We were freaked out when we found out he took himself to the ER! He soldiered on with his gimpy leg on the mixing console for the rest of the sessions.

Unfortunately, when we finished mastering the record, Grass dropped us and never released it. They then sold the label and became Wind-Up - releasing records by Creed and the like.

We have been sitting on it for a couple decades until finally getting it transferred off of the DAT and onto digital audio. All for your listening pleasure!

We hope you enjoy!
